Gorloks go cold in second half in loss to Greenville, 76-61

(St. Louis, Mo.) – After making 54 percent of its shots (14-of-26) from the floor in the opening frame Webster made only nine field goals in the second half in its loss to Greenville, 76-61 on Wednesday evening at Webster.

    The Gorloks (9-12, 3-9 SLIAC) were hot to start the game from both inside and outside the arc building an 11 point lead 12 minutes into the contest. It wouldn’t last though as Greenville (15-6, 9-3 SLIAC) got hot down the stretch and came back to tie the game at 32-32 behind the trio of Natalie Lappe, Ashley Alltop and Tricia Frost scoring 18 of its final 22 points in the frame. WU went into the break with a 35-32 lead thanks to a three pointer by Katy Meyer in the closing seconds.

    The opening minutes of the second frame went back and forth with each side answering bucket for bucket until another three from Frost propelled GC on a 26-5 run and open up a 21 point lead with three minutes to play. Webster was unable to score from the field making only one field goal in the decisive run. Alltop and Meredith Banal combined to score 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting in the stanza to help the Panthers pull away with the victory.

    Jacquelyn Wamser had 17 points to lead the way for Webster while Meyer chipped in with 14.

    Banal had 18 points to lead all scorers, 16 in the second half, to lead Greenville. She was joined in double digits by Lappe with 16, Alltop contributed 14 and Frost finished with 12.
