Women's tennis reverses fall decision with 5-4 spring win over Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's tennis team avenged a loss from their fall season with a uplifting 5-4 win over Webster at the Scott J. Burgess Tennis Complex.

When the Panthers met the Gorloks in the fall, Webster came away with a 6-3 win. This spring with Emily Buratovich adding depth at the bottom of the lineup, Greenville picked up a swing win at No. 3 doubles, and shifts in the No. 3 through No. 5 singles positions allowed GU to gain two wins in two of those three matches.

GU's No. 3 doubles team of Stephanie Kamp and Buratovich won 8-6.

In singles, No. 2 Addison Brannon eased to a 6-3, 6-1 win, and No. 4 Natalia Higashi captured a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

No. 1 Mireia Birosta, No. 3 Callie Adkins, and No. 5 Stephanie Kamp went to a third set tiebreaker with Birosta and Kamp gaining wins. Birosta won a 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 decision, and Kamp came out on top 5-7, 6-4, 14-12. Adkins dropped her decision 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.

The Panthers (6-11, 1-1 UMAC) were originally scheduled to meet Westminster on Saturday, April 15, but the match was cancelled. Greenville will next compete on Tuesday, April 18 against Lewis and Clark in an exhibition match at 3 p.m.
