Softball advances to second straight NCAA tournament with SLIAC tourney championship

ST. ANN, Mo. -- The softball team is returning to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year as SLIAC tournament champions.  The Lady Panthers defeated Webster 7-1 on Sunday morning to take the championship after a perfect 3-0 tourney.

Greenville took the early advantage with two first inning runs.  Becca Oldham produced an RBI single, and Jordyn Wieland later scored from third base on a failed pickoff attempt.

Webster tightened the score to 2-1 in the top of the third, but Greenville put the game out of reach with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fourth, Samsoe and Wieland had RBI singles, and Kate Jolliff had a two run single.  Wieland eventually scored the fifth run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Starting pitcher Brianna Anderson picked up the complete game win as she permitted one run on four hits and one walk.  She struck out six.

Following the tournament, four players were selected for the all-tournament team -- Tiffany Samsoe, Cassandra Lueking, Kate Jolliff, and tournament MVP Brianna Anderson.

The Lady Panthers (24-15) will find out their NCAA tournament destination on Monday at Noon during the NCAA selection show.
