Women's Volleyball Wins Five Set Thriller Over Webster To Sweep Season Series

The Basics
Set 1: In the first set, the Griffins opened with a 14-9 lead on a solo block from Hannah Gallagher. They continued to be in control from there leading 20-14 on Jordan Harpel's kill. However, the Gorloks closed the set out on a 9-3 run capped off by Kaylee Portell's kill for the 25-23 win.
Set 2: It was a battle throughout the second set with neither team giving way. After Webster tied it 20-20, the Griffins took a 21-20 lead on Kristen Kaempfe's kill.
After a going point-for-point, the Griffins took the lead for good owning a 23-22 advantage on Jadyn Fitzgerald's kill. Another kill from Fitzgerald followed by a setting error secured the 25-22 win for Fontbonne. The Griffins posted a match-high 17 kills in the second.
Set 3: The Gorloks tied up the third set at 16-16 on Karter Hiliard's kill. The Griffins answered with a 4-0 run capped off by Gallagher's kill. That proved to be more than enough breathing room with Fontbonne going on for the 25-20 victory.
It was another strong set offensively for Fontbonne with 14 kills and a match-high .324 hitting percentage. Gallagher led with five kills, while Fitzgerald and Kaempfe had four.
Set 4: It was all Webster in the fourth with the Gorloks opening with a 12-2 lead on a Fontbonne attack error. The Gorloks forced a fifth and final set after gathering the 25-16 win.
Set 5: After it being tied 7-7, the Griffins went on a 3-0 run with Fitzgerald's kill giving them the 10-7 lead. They closed out the set on a 5-3 run en route to the 15-10 victory on another Fitzgerald kill.
Fontbonne Leaders
- The Griffins ended with a season-high 62 kills. Defensively, the team came away with 80 digs and six blocks.
- Fitzgerald led Fontbonne with a season-high 18 kills and .271 hitting percentage.
- Kaempfe earned her fourth double-double on the year with a season-high 17 kills, a .244 hitting percentage, and 11 digs.
- Gallagher notched her 11th career double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs.
- Jordan Harpel also marked a new season-high with eight kills.
- Ella Werner-Click made it double-double No. 7 in her career with a career-high 49 assists and 18 digs.
- Emma Pramik led defensively with 22 digs.

The Griffins are right back in action tomorrow night when they'll host Harris-Stowe at 4 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m., contest against Illinois College.
