Women's soccer drops match at home to Rose-Hulman

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's soccer team fell behind 3-0 in the first half and was unable to recover in their loss to Rose-Hulman on Monday night at Francis Field.

Rose-Hulman broke the scoreless contest in the 18th minute of the match when a corner kick landed right at the feet of the Engineers in the box and was deposited in the net.

Later in the 31st minute, a cross was delivered to the six and met by an onrushing attacker for another goal by Rose-Hulman.

The Engineers collected their final goal of the match when a corner kick was deflected into the net in the 39th minute.

After making adjustments at halftime, Greenville gave themselves some offensive opportunities with six shots in the second period. The Panthers had one shot in the first half.

"The energy was just so much better in the second half and it's annoying because you need that from the get-go," said head coach Jeff Wardlaw. "We need to figure out who we are and which way we want to play. No matter what we do the effort needs to be better."

Samantha De La Cruz and Jen De Leon De Leon each provided two shots for the Panthers. De La Cruz, Emma Cadwell, and Athena Hagerman posted one shot each on goal.

Greenville's goalkeeper Grace Gehner was pestered all evening with 24 shots from Rose-Hulman. She managed to come up with six saves.

"Grace had four to five fantastic next level athletic saves, and she needed a game like that," said Wardlaw.

The Panthers (0-2) travel to Millikin for a match on Saturday at 5 p.m.
