GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team returned to the court after a two week layoff and came up short in a 77-62 loss to William Woods on Saturday.
The Panthers led for the majority of the first quarter, but a late bucket gave William Woods a 15-14 advantage when the first period came to a close.
In the second quarter, Greenville regained the lead after trailing by as many as seven in the stanza and carried a 37-36 lead into halftime.
The third and fourth quarters saw William Woods take a two point lead with a three-pointer to open the third period, and they captured a lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the game. The Panthers were outscored 25-13 in the third quarter and trailed 61-50 heading into the fourth.
William Woods outscored GU 16-12 over the final 10 minutes.
The Panthers were led in scoring by Wesley Woodard with 15 points.
Morgan St. James had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. St. James also added two steals.
Emily Brandland also reached double figures with a 10 point game.
Greenville was victimized by a shooting percentage of just over 30 percent and 20 turnovers in the game.
The Panthers (8-3) travel to Fontbonne for a SLIAC game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
