Westminster Women's Soccer Blanks MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Powered by three second half goals – two by Gracie Koonce and one by senior Heidi Gundy – controlled the tempo of the match and downed MacMurray College, 4-0, on the road Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill. 

Sophomore Cara Wilfong got the scoring going in the first half, placing an assist from junior Katherine Hammond in the net at the 7:26 mark of the contest, for her sixth goal of the season.

Koonce scored her first goal of the day unassisted at the 50:55 mark in the second half and scored again unassisted at the 65:43 mark. The senior from Norman, Okla., has tallied 10 goals on the season. Gundy scored her seventh goal of the season unassisted at 59:14.

Sarah Craddick pitched a shutout in goal, defending the only shot on goal the Highlanders could muster on the day. 

Westminster Head Coach Wendy Sanchez said her squad "came out with good possession" and was able to control the tempo of the match.

"We scored four nice goals and came away with another good team win," Sanchez said.

The Blue Jays improve to 7-3-1 overall with the win; 3-1 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. 

Westminster tallied 20 shots in the contest compared to just two for the Highlanders, who fall to 3-8-on the season; 1-2 in the SLIAC. 

The Blue Jays return to action on Wednesday when they travel to St. Louis to face Fontbonne.
