Beavers Lose Doubleheader to Webster

Blackburn Softball lost their non-conference doubleheader to Webster on Monday afternoon. The Gorloks took game one 14-0, then won game two by a final score of _ - _.

 

Game one was an offensive explosion from Webster. They scored five runs in the first, three in the second, then another five in the third, all while holding the Beavers scoreless. They plated one run in the top of the fourth inning as well.

 

A leadoff double from Webster's Jaelin Holdaway started the momentum for the Gorloks. Katie Croxal followed this hit with a single, and the bats stayed hot through the remainder of the Webster lineup.

 

Michelle Hollon was on the mound for the Beavers and took the loss in game one, putting her overall record at 4-2 on the season. Webster's Reese Wagonner took the win on the mound for the Gorloks, moving her to an overall record of 4-1 on the season.

 

Webster took control of game two in the early innings as well. After plating a run in the first inning, the Gorloks scored seven runs in the second inning, courtesy of a string of hits from the middle of their lineup. Katie Croxal doubled to left center with two outs, plating two runs, and giving Webster a 5-0 lead. After an error by the Beavers, and a couple more hits from Webster, the Gorloks were up 8-0 heading into the bottom of the second.

 

Webster manufactured another pair of runs in the top of the third inning, giving them a comfortable 10-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, they scored another run to extend the lead to 11-0. In the top of the fifth, after holding the Beavers scoreless again, they plated another two runs to make the score 13-0, which ended up being the final.

 

The Beavers will have a brief break in their schedule before they host Greenville on Wednesday for another SLIAC matchup. Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
