Red Devils Control Webster, Win Fourth Straight at Home, 81-70

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College junior guard Shea Feehan (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) continued his pursuit of the Red Devils' all-time top-10 scoring list with a game-high 34 points, sending the Red Devils to their widest margin of victory against Webster since the 2009-10 season in Saturday's 81-70 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Gorloks at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena.

Eureka and Webster traded the lead six times in the first six minutes of Saturday's game, but the Red Devils trailed for exactly 60 seconds. Christian Crespo gave the Gorloks a 12-10 lead with 15:16 remaining in the first half, but Feehan responded with a 3 just 27 seconds later and Eureka led the rest of the way.

Feehan's bucket triggered EC's 34-20 surge to end the period. Two free throws by Austin Juergens (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) and a Feehan jumper in the final three minutes allowed the hosts to lead by as many 12 points in the first 20 minutes, and the 44-32 cushion at the buzzer equaled the Red Devils' largest advantage of the half.

The Gorloks clawed back within nine just 56 seconds into the second half, but a Feehan bucket ignited an 11-0 EC run that covered only 91 seconds. Ryan McElmurry's (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg H.S./Black Hawk) trey gave the Red Devils a 57-37 cushion – their biggest of the day – and finally forced a WU timeout at the 16:40 mark.

The hosts enjoyed a comfortable lead the rest of the way. The Gorloks trailed by 18 in final two minutes before scoring seven in a row to close the contest.

Feehan finished the game with 1,203 career points, becoming the 13th player of the Red Devils' NCAA Division III era and the first since Mark Lessen (2009-13) to score 1,200 points.

Hank Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S.) delivered 12 points and McElmurry had a balanced effort with 10 points, six assists and three rebounds. Alex Wiegand (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) tallied nine rebounds and Jordan Dehm (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) blocked three shots. Eureka did a good portion of its damage from beyond the arc, hitting 14 3-pointers on 29 attempts. The 11-point win was Eureka's largest over Webster since a 76-62 victory at the old Reagan Center on Feb. 6, 2010.

Three Gorloks reached double-digit point production, led by 15 from Enrique Tankins. WU held a 46-38 advantage on the glass and scored 40 points in the paint, but struggled to a 5-for-19 performance from 3-point range.

Eureka break from league action Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference bout with Dominican (Ill.) at the Reagan Athletic Complex.
