Men's basketball records win against Defiance in consolation game

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The men's basketball team grabbed the consolation trophy at the Defiance tournament on Saturday with a 139-133 win over the host.  Junior forward Sonti Grady picked up all-tournament honors as he posted 27 points on Saturday and ended with an average of 22 points per game in the tournament.

Greenville held a slim one point 64-63 advantage at halftime, and they pushed their lead to 13 with 16 minutes to go in the game.  Defiance tightened the score but never took the lead over the Panthers in the second half.

To supplement Grady's all-tournament performance, Johari Dix posted 33 points and tied Grady with four steals in the game.  Grady was the high-assist man with five.

Greenville forced Defiance into committing 28 turnovers and collected 15 steals.

GU's leading rebounder was Vari Bonney with six.

Greenville shot a season-high 52.7 percent from the floor with a shooting performance of 49-of-93.  They were a season's best 44.7 percent behind the three-point line with 21-of-47 made three point attempts.

The Panthers (6-5) will host MacMurray on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in their first game of the New Year.
