Panthers' Steady Play Outlasts Sabercats

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Panthers of Greenville College proved a point on a sunny Watertown afternoon, as they scored early and late to top the Sabercats 3-0. Greenville's stable possession and defensive organization proved too much for the Sabercats to handle, and the Sabercats saw their search for a win further extended after the 90 minutes had expired.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 0-3 Panthers
  • Location: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Attendance: 120
  • Sabercats: now 1-4; Panthers: now 2-3-1

How it Happened

  • 13' - A driven Panther corner kick found the head of Max Finley, who slammed his header into the back of the net from close range to put the Panthers on the board (0-1)
  • 55' - After another corner kick was half-cleared by the Sabercats, Edgar Bueno settled the ball and launched a volley from 30 yards that found the corner of the net (0-2)
  • 89' - With just 90 seconds remaining, Cole Labhart stole into the Sabercats' penalty area and tucked the ball neatly to the far corner to give the Panthers an extra insurance goal (0-3)

From Coach Pill

"It continues to be a developmental process as we continue to learn more about the game and about ourselves. There were some encouraging things today as our defending improved - we were tighter and more aware of our roles. Our attack was not as dynamic as it needed to be at times. The good thing is that our guys are still focused and patient, and we look forward to our next game against Lakeland on Tuesday."

Next Up

  • The Sabercats will travel to Plymouth, Wisconsin on Tuesday to face the Muskies of Lakeland College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
