3/17/2018 7:53:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Nolan Schoonveld stretched his hitting streak to nine games Saturday for the Piper baseball team. Unfortunately, it came on a day when Hamline dropped two games in Tucson, falling 5-1 to Greenville and 8-3 to Wesleyan (Conn.) at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona.

HU was held to two hits against the Pirates. (Schoonveld and Mitch Benson had singles.) Hamline scored in the third inning when Cyle Hartwig (33) was hit by a pitch, was bunted to second and raced home when Schoonveld was safe on an error. Ben Resnick (1-1) started and went the first four innings, taking the loss.

In the second game, Wesleyan scored solo runs in each of the first two innings for a 2-0 lead. HU halved the lead on Hunter Merrseschmidt's RBI single that plated Hartwig.

HU scored a run in the sixth and went ahead, 3-2, in the seventh when Messerschmidt led off with a single and eventually strode home on a bases loaded single from Nick Kukurich. Wesleyan responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take charge of the game.

Hamline is now 3-6 overall. They are off Sunday and will return to Kino on Monday, March 19 to take on Oberlin.
