Women's volleyball splits Saturday matches

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The women's volleyball team headed to Webster to face Westminster and Fontbonne on Saturday and returned home with a win and loss.

Greenville fell to Westminster in five games in their opening match of day before beating Fontbonne in four games.

Greenville was tightly matched with Westminster, who they faced in last season's SLIAC tournament championship match.  This time Westminster came out on top by a final score of 23-25, 25-20, 9-25, 25-19, 15-10.

Allyson Mitchell posted a match-high 24 kills as she attacked at a .279 rate.  She added a service ace.

Allyson Grabowski was active on the defensive side of the net with 19 digs.

Kirsten Laune provided 36 assists.

The day's second match saw Greenville victorious by a 21-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-22 final score.

Mitchell gave Greenville 19 kills to lead their offensive attack.  Laune totaled 53 assists.

A host of Lady Panthers posted double-digit dig totals as Grabowski led with 21.  Janisha Pealer added 16 digs, and Savannah Sells and Laune each had 15.

The Lady Panthers (10-3, 6-1 SLIAC) travel to Principia for a match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
