Softball offense stifled against Trine

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The softball team's second appearance in the NCAA national tournament was derailed on Thursday as they were forced into the loser's bracket with a major uphill climb ahead of them.  The Lady Panthers were defeated 12-1 in five innings by NCAA Division III No. 22 Trine.

Greenville allowed four runs in the first, second, and fourth innings as Trine piled up a 8-0 lead before the Lady Panthers could record their first hit, a two-out base hit by Becca Oldham in the top of the fourth inning.

Brianna Anderson had a challenging start in the circle, giving up eight runs on eight hits in 1.1 innings.  Three of the hits were home runs.

Cayla Speaks closed the game with 2.2 innings in which she allowed four runs.

Greenville wouldn't go out without scoring a run.  In the fifth inning, the Lady Panthers worked the count for three walks, and Tiffany Samsoe drove in a run with an RBI groundout.

The Lady Panthers (24-16) face Hope on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Wisconsin.
