SAUGET, Ill. - Westminster baseball won one game of the three-game series against Webster, taking game one in 12 innings.
The Blue Jays move to 6-8 overall, starting the conference season 1-2.
In game one, Westminster opened the first two innings with a run in each one, starting the game off 2-0 after two innings. Mason Price drove in Nick Bohlmann on a sacrifice fly to center field, while Ryan Klimkiewicz blasted a solo shot for his first home run of the year.
The Gorloks returned in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game 2-2 after five.
Neither team scored again until the game was sent into extra innings. Ryan Clavin was the next two score in the top of the 11th with a solo homerun toright field, putting Westminster up 3-2.
The Gorloks returned to salvage the game and send it to a 12th inning with a run on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 11th.
The Blue Jays exploded in the top of the 12th for their biggest inning of the game, scoring three runs. Blake Strebler doubled to score the first run and eventually scored on a single from Price. Braden Beasley then walked in a run for the third Blue Jay run of the inning, making the score 6-3.
Webster was able to get one run back in the bottom of the inning, but Clavin closed the game out in the extended two-inning save to earn the win, his first of the year.
Ian Cassidy started on the mound for Westminster, pitching nine innings and giving up just one earned run on six hits, striking out three.
In game two, Westminster struggled offensively, scoring just two runs to Webster's eight.
Will Stonecipher drove in both runs on a ground out to advance the runners in the fourth, and a single in the fifth.
Alex Dickneite started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up four runs on six hits, striking out seven.
The game three, the Blue Jays were close to yet another extra inning game, but a walkoff Gorlok double prevented Westminster from getting another late inning shot at a victory.
The Blue Jays were on the board first after two scoreless innings from both teams. In the third, Mason Price doubled up the middle to clear the bases and score Clavin, Strebler, and Bohlmann.
Westminster added to the lead in the fourth on a solo shot from Trevor Rhoads, his first of the year, to go up 4-0.
Webster scored two runs in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh runs to stage their comeback win, going up 6-4 after seven.
Brandon Beeler and Bohlmann both drove in runs in the eighth and ninth to tie the game at six apiece before Webster was able to drive in the walkoff run to seal the victory in the bottom of the ninth.
Skyler Dickneite started on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up four runs on nine hits, striking out three. Andrew Boessen took the loss after pitching 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits.
The Blue Jays return home Thursday for the first time in over three weeks to face conference opponent Blackburn in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
