GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team opened their 2018 SLIAC schedule with a loss followed by a win against Webster on Wednesday. Greenville fell 11-9 in game one and won game two 9-8.
The Panthers jumped ahead 5-0 in game one before allowing Webster to place 11 runs on the scoreboard in the fourth inning in the game one loss. Greenville came back to tighten teh scored to 11-9, but they would not regain the lead.
Beth Mersinger was 1-for-3 in game one with a run scored and three RBI. Amanda Atteberry posted three hits.
Caitie Opp was unable to retire a batter in the Webster 11-run frame before Cayla Speaks had to reenter the game. Speaks ended up pitching all seven innings.
Game two saw Greenville receive a two run home run from Kate Jolliff Rosado with two outs in the bottom of the sixth for the 9-8 win.
Atteberry was 1-for-2 with a run, a triple, and two RBI.
Pitcher Maegen Stone received the win with two innings of relief.
The Panthers (3-11) travel to MacMurray next Wednesday for a doubleheader.
