Baseball topped 14-8 by Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team fell in a 14-8 slugfest with Webster on Thursday night in game one of the regular season ending three game series.

The teams combined for eight home runs in the game.

Greenville received solo home runs from Landon Mokris in the third and seventh innings, Logan Doll in the fourth inning, and Brexton Beard in the sixth inning.

The teams were tied at 3-3 going into the top of the seventh.

In Webster's half of the seventh inning, the Gorloks scored six runs. GU came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning, capped by Mokris' second homer of the game to make the score 9-7.

The Gorloks added three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, while the Panthers only added one more run.

Beard, Doll, and Tanner Gerdes finished the game with two hits for GU. Doll scored twice, and Mokris added to his conference-high RBI total with two to give him 63 in 36 games.

Starting pitcher Luke Fleener was effective on the mound, holding Webster to two runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

Ian Wilson permitted one run on two hits in the sixth inning, but Braden Maltbie recorded the loss by giving up five runs on four hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Cade Buehnerkemper gave up three runs in one-third of an inning, and Dylan Boehm finished the game with two innings in which he allowed three runs with four strikeouts.

The Panthers (18-18, 11-8 SLIAC) will host Webster in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Robert E. Smith Field.
