Late Greenville Goal Steals the Show

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Sabercats clashed with the Panthers of Greenville College for the first time in program history, and stood strong through 87 minutes of the contest. Behind Hannah Anderson's 10 saves, the Sabercats' defense almost stood the test of time, but were ultimately undone right at the death via a well-placed Whitney Warner shot from distance with less than three minutes left.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 0-1 Panthers
  • Location: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Attendance: 150
  • Maranatha: now 1-4, Greenville: now 3-3

How it Happened

  • 88' - With the clock winding down and the game seeming to be overtime-bound, the Panthers released Warner on the wing, where she elected to play the ball towards the back post. Warner's strike sailed over everyone and found the upper corner on the far post to give the Panthers the away win (0-1)

Key Stats

  • Anderson recorded 10 saves in the 0-1 loss
  • Julie Roer registered the Sabercats' only shot on goal
  • The Panthers outshot the Sabercats 27-3
  • Greenville's Breanna Thomas tallied 7 shots on the day

From Coach Anderson

"I'm gutted for the girls as we just missed pulling out a result today. But, I think there are still postives aspects to take away from this game. We took good steps in training this week which led to a more organized and principled approach. I'm also proud of the way we defended today. This is a foundation to build on, so now we can look forward to a full week of training before a good road test next weekend."
