Women's volleyball splits day one at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The women's volleyball took a three set match over Central (Iowa) on Friday at Millikin before dropping a tightly contested five set match against the host Millikin squad.

The Panthers defeated Central 27-25, 25-18, 25-22 in the day's initial contest.

Greenville opened the first match with a very efficient attack in the first set. In set number one the Panthers piled up 17 kills, five errors, 45 attacks, and a .267 hitting percentage.

They slipped to 12-4-36-.222 in set two and 13-8-42-.119 in set three, but they still managed to sweep the match.

Middles Anna Finch and Emily each led Greenville's attack with 10 kills. Stahl produced a .400 hitting clip.

Jordan Lempa directed the offense with 36 set assists.

Greenville's back row effort was led by Chasity Hill with 14 digs and Jasmin Smith with 12 digs.

At the net, Finch produced two solo blocks and two block assists. Sacorra Patton chipped in two block assists, and Jasmin Smith had two solo blocks.

A five set matchup later in the evening against Millikin ended with the Panthers handed a 22-25, 27-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-7 loss.

Patton finished with a team high 16 kills in the match, four service aces, a solo block, and block assist to pile up 20.5 points.

Finch gave Greenville 13.5 points with 11 kills and five block assists.

Smith produced 11 kills and also added a service ace and block assist for 12.5 points.

Lempa again provided the team-high with 38 set assists.

Greenville featured five double-digit dig marks in the back row. Hill had a team-high 15 digs, Smith added a double-double with 13 digs, Lempa totaled 11 digs, and Patton and Amber Glazebrook each had 10 digs.

Overall, Greenville finished hitting 54-30-168-.143 with a high water hitting rate of 15-5-35-.286 in set four.

The Panthers (5-2) participate in the second day of the Millikin tournament on Saturday against Monmouth and Marian (Wis.).
