Westminster Men's Soccer Secures Spot in SLIAC Tournament

EUREKA, Ill. - With a 4-1 win over Eureka, Westminster men's soccer secures a spot in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Blue Jays finish the regular season with a record of 6-9-2 and 5-3-1 in the conference. 

"This was a big win here today," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We've had a long regular season and I think we have grown a lot during that time. Now it is time for us to take advantage of the opportunity in front of us. We have the capability of defeating anyone if we bring the character and play to the best of our ability." 

Westminster owned the first half, scoring two goals from Justin Gerdiman within the first 17 minutes. Both goals were assisted by Patrick Wisnewski

To open the second half, Jake Skaggs scored his second goal of the season on an assist from Gerdiman to go up 3-0 on the Red Devils. 

Austin Chandler scored the final Blue Jay goal on an assist from Wisnewski. 

Eureka managed to net a ball in the 78th minute to make the final score 4-1. 

Westminster dominated the Red Devils offensively, outshooting Eureka 30-12. Wisnewski, Chandler and Gerdiman each tallied five shots. 

Connor Bandre played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves. 

Westminster goes on to face Fontbonne on the road Wednesday night in the SLIAC Tournament semifinals.
