TUCSON, Ariz. -- The softball team fell in a pair of games in Arizona on Monday as they faced Eastern Connecticut State and Stevens.  The Lady Panthers lost to Eastern Connecticut 11-3 in five innings and then dropped their game to Stevens 12-4.

Greenville's spring break started well as Kate Jolliff homered in the second inning of game one to give them a 1-0 lead.

ECSU tied the game with a homer in the second and added five runs in the third and two in the fourh innings.

Becca Oldham made the score 8-3 with a two-run double in the top of the fifth, but Eastern Connecticut ended the game with three runs off relief pitcher Cayla Speaks in the bottom of the fifth.

Brianna Anderson started the game for Greenville in the circle and permitted six runs, two earned, on five hits.  She was tagged with the loss.

Game two saw Greenville once again take the early lead with two runs in the first inning.  After a fly ball from Amanda Atteberry to right field with the bases loaded, there was no play at home plate, but the catcher tried to catch Tiffany Samsoe as she retreated to third base.  The errant throw allowed Samsoe and Oldham to cross home plate.

Stevens answered with a run in the next half inning.

In the top of the third, Oldham hit a solo home run, and Greenville got their fourth run with Karissa Woody's RBI single.

Stevens scored seven runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to end the game.

Kaitlyn Johnson was Greenville's starting pitcher.  She went 4.1 innings and allowed four runs.  Caitie Opp picked up the loss as she allowed six unearned runs in one-third of an inning.

The Lady Panthers (3-3) face Central College and Wisconsin-Platteville on Tuesday.
