Westminster Earns Commanding Win Over Blackburn

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster men's soccer earns 5-1 win over Blackburn on senior night. 

The Blue Jays honored seven seniors during tonight's match: Drake Trease, Kyle Collins, Drew Cook, Josh Jaycox, David Immanuel, Peter Gerber, and Eli Sherman

Blackburn scored the first goal in the 18th minute, but Westminster quickly answered 32nd minute on a goal by Cooper Smith. After that, the Blue Jays never looked back. 

"We got off to a slow start but did a great job of bouncing right back," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "I'm really proud and happy for our group of seniors tonight. They've had such a big impact on the program and it was really nice to get a win for them tonight."

Daniel Barone added a goal in the 33rd minute on shot from outside the box that the Blackburn goalkeeper narrowly missed. Westminster went into the locker room at the half with a 2-1 lead. 

The second half was dominated by Westminster, starting with a goal by Trease in the 55th minute on a shot from distance. Cook added a goal in the 60th minute to make the lead 3-1. 

David Immanuel tallied the last goal for the Blue Jays on an assist from Mauricio Mateo to make the final score 5-1. 

Westminster dominated Blackburn in shots at 45-5. Goalkeeper Ben Chesher made one save. 

The Blue Jays continue SLIAC play Friday at Fontbonne for a 7 p.m. matchup.
