Softball sweeps Robert Morris Springfield

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team picked up two wins on Tuesday against Robert Morris-Springfield.  The Lady Panthers won the first game 5-2 and grabbed a 5-3 win in game two.

Greenville scoring in the bottom of the first on Kate Jolliff's RBI groundout that scored Jordyn Wieland.

Becca Oldham homered in the second inning to give Greenville a 2-0 lead.

Robert Morris Springfield came from behind to tie the score at 2-2 in the sixth inning.

Greenville came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.  In Greenville's sixth, Tiffany Samsoe crushed a three run homer to provide the game winning runs.

Brianna Anderson earned the win in the circle.  She pitched the entire game, hurling seven innings and giving up both runs.

Game two saw Greenville jump ahead 2-0 in the first inning with Jolliff's two-run double and never trail.

The Lady Panthers lead was cut to 2-1 in the second inning, but Greenville posted a bases loaded walk to Jolliff in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly by Nicole Geissberger in the fifth inning for a 4-1 advantage.

Robert Morris Springfield tightened the game to 4-3 with two runs off reliever Cayla Speaks in the sixth inning, but Greenville added an insurance run on Jolliff's RBI double.

Starting pitcher Caitie Opp was the winning pitcher with four innings with one earned run allowed.  Speaks gained the save with three innings of relief.

The Lady Panthers (7-8) play Blackburn in SLIAC action at home on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
