Griffins Split with Spalding in SLIAC Opener
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Fontbonne University softball team split a doubleheader against Spalding University this Saturday afternoon. The team moves to 10-12 overall and 1-1 in SLIAC play.

Game One:
The Griffins earned their first SLIAC victory over Spalding, 4-2.
On the top of the second, Madelyn Holtmeyer reached on a fielder's choice scoring Ashley Carrow.
Lilly Jones and Allysa Ibarra scored on a single to the right field from Ellie Bartlett to increase the Giffins' lead to 3-0, on the top of the third.
On the top of the fourth, Lilly Jones walked, and Madelyn Holtmeyer scored for a 4-0 lead.
On the bottom of the fourth, Jessica Tucker and Kailey Reed scored the final runs of the game for Spalding.
Hailey Kutz (4-4) took the win in the circle. She pitched 7.0 innings and struck out 12 and allowed two hits and two runs.
Game Two:
The Griffins fell short to Spalding, 2-1, in eight innings.
Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when Ashley Carrow hit a sac fly scoring Lilly Jones on the throw. Brooklynn Nolot hit a single to the middle scoring K Terral to tie the game, on the bottom of the fourth.
Neither team were able to score in the next three innings, leading them into the eighth.
K. Franklin Brooks was hit by the pitcher and scored Jessica Tucker from Spalding to take the win over the Griffins.
Sam Foppe (1-2) grabbed the loss on the circle. She pitched 7.0 innings and struck out three while allowing four hits and two runs.

The Griffins will travel to Eureka for a doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 12. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
