Morrow’s double-double propels Storm to big win over Iowa Wesleyan

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Noreen Morrow posted her second straight double-double, Janey Botkins had 11 points to lead a great effort by the bench and the Simpson women's basketball team beat Iowa Wesleyan 82-52 on the first day of the Simpson Thanksgiving Classic on Friday.

Morrow finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Storm (3-1), who won their third straight game after a season-opening loss. Ellen Gallagher filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks, joining Botkins to help Simpson hold a 51-21 advantage in bench points.

Every player in a Simpson uniform got into the scoring column.

Josie Zerrusen scored 19 points to lead the Tigers (0-4), who shot just 27.4 percent from the field for the game and 14.2 percent in the first half.

Simpson's suffocating defense held Iowa Wesleyan without a field goal for a span of 13 minutes, 55 seconds in the first half. LaStella Slack made a layup with 3:37 to play in the first and the Tigers didn't make another shot from the field until Zerrusen's jumper with 18 seconds left in the half.

Key Moment
The Storm took control of the game early, mounting a 16-0 run late in the first quarter to build a 21-point lead. Simpson led 12-7 with 3:37 to play in the first when Cameron Kincaid hit a pair of free throws to start the run. Botkins followed with a trey and Kincaid added an and-one. Johnson's fastbreak layup with 39 seconds left in the period made it 28-7 Storm.
