THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Westminster softball won one game against Cal Lutheran and lost the other in extra innings to open their spring break trip.

The Blue Jays move to 3-5 on the year. 

"We had a great day today," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "Getting a split on our first day against a quality team was a great start." 

In game one, Westminster fell behind 2-0 after the first three innings, but quickly recovered with a two-run fourth inning on RBIs from Brooke Laidley and Samantha Henderson. 

The Blue Jays pitched three shutout innings to keep the game tied at two, but Cal Lutheran took the lead 3-2 in the sixth. Westminster tied the game in the seventh on an RBI single from Aubrie Vaughn, sending the game into extra innings. In the eighth, Mackenzie Myers gave Westminster the lead. 

Cal Lutheran managed to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth for a walkoff win, with the Blue Jays falling short 5-4 in game one. 

Katie Price took the loss for Westminster, giving up five runs on 13 hits, striking out five. 

In game two, Madison Ingram took the mound and gave up just one run the entire game on the sophomore pitcher's birthday. She gave up just four hits. 

"It was great to see this breakout game for her," said Henderson. 

Westminster scored two runs in the third and fourth innings on hits from Price and Callie Collier, which was enough to take the win. 

"Southern California can be a tough place to play and I'm really proud of the team," said Henderson. "We have four more games in two days, but I know this team is up to the task." 

Westminster will face Vanguard Monday and Redlands Tuesday to close out their spring break trip.
