CHICAGO, IL
The North Park men’s basketball team defeated Eureka College 73-48 in its home opener Tuesday night.
Both teams stayed even with each other early in the contest. Eureka took a brief 16-15 lead on Mark Darnall’s jumper with 11:13 left, but North Park responded with a 14-3 scoring run to pull ahead 29-19 on a three-point play from sophomore Nick Williams. The Vikings led 38-24 at halftime.
A 16-5 North Park scoring run to start the second half then put the game out of reach as the Vikings pushed their advantage to 54-29 after a three-point play from sophomore Dan Oziminski at the 12:21 mark. North Park led by as a many as 31 at 71-40 on a three-pointer from senior Jason Gordon with 5:23 left.
Williams led the Vikings with 15 points while both Gordon and freshman Bruce Durham finished with 12 points each. Sophomore transfer Jorge Gonzalez pulled down eight rebounds as North Park out-rebounded Eureka 37-30. Matt McComb led the Red Devils with 11 points.
