Softball splits SLIAC doubleheader at Iowa Wesleyan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- The softball team split a doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan on the road on Wednesday.  Greenville fell 5-4 in the first game that went to extra innings, and they they won game two by a 7-2 margin.

Both starting pitchers went the distance in game one that ended in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Lady Panthers jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the second when Kate Jolliff stole home as part of a double steal, and Cassandra Lueking later added an RBI single.

Iowa Wesleyan took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third, and Greenville went back on top in the top of the fourth with Becca Oldham's two run home run.

The Tigers tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Game two went Greenville's way as they came from behind for a 7-2 win.

Iowa Wesleyan took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Greenville grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth with Tiffany Samsoe's two run double, Jolliff's RBI groundout, and RBI single from Oldham.

Oldham hit her second two run homer of the day in the top of the fifth, and Samsoe got a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth.

Iowa Wesleyan made the score 7-2 with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Caitie Opp was the winning pitcher as she pitched all seven innings to improve her record to 2-2.  She gave up two runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.

The Lady Panthers (12-9, 5-1 SLIAC) travel to Webster for a doubleheader on Friday.
