Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Goeing's 29 helps propel Eagles past Oglethorpe, 77-69

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding men's basketball team used 12 made three-pointers to push them past Ogelthorpe 77-69 on Wednesday afternoon at Derek Smith Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles improved to 3-7 and the Stormy Petrels fell to 4-7. Brandon Goeing scored a game-high 29 points on 9-for-18 shooting and 8-of-15 from the three-point arc.

The Golden Eagles used a 19-8 run in the middle of the first half to take their largest lead of 19 with 5:34 left in the first half. Nine different Golden Eagles scored a basket in the first half with Goeing scoring a team-high 17 on five three's in 10 minutes of action. Ogelthorpe would cut into the lead as the half dwindled down and Spalding went into the locker room with a 12-point lead.

The second half went back and forth with both teams hitting big shots on both ends. The Stormy Petrels would get within five two different times in the second half but couldn't get over the hump as the game got away from them.

Goeing added another 12-points in the second half to help melt the game away for the Golden Eagles. James Turner added 11 of his own in the second half as well.

The Golden Eagles will jump into the conference season full-time beginning Saturday at 3:00 p.m. versus Greenville at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
