Westminster Women's Basketball Falls to Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - Westminster women's basketball falls to Millikin 91-64 for its second loss of the year. 

The Blue Jays falls to 0-2 on the year. 

"This team will continue to work," said Westminster Head Coach Tracey Braden. "They care about each other and they love this game. We will make strides with each opportunity we have." 

Westminster started the game off well and played at a steady pace with the Big Blue, tied at 9-9 with just over four minutes to play in the first quarter. 

After two made freethrows from Andrea Zalis, the Millikin went on an 8-0 run and never looked back. The first quarter ended with a score of 22-11. 

A jump shot and made freethrow from freshman Brooke Stauffer and bucket from Zalis pulled the Bue Jays within six, but it wasn't enough for the Blue Jays to pull even. Zalis scored eight of her 18 points in the second quarter. 

Westminster went into the locker room at the half with a 19-point deficit. 

After a slow third quarter, the Blue Jays were able to outscore their opponent in the fourth quarter 25-20 fueled by 12 points from point guard Kelsey Ray

"We moved the ball better in the second half," saif Braden. "We were more aggressive to the basket this game." 

The team also was 16-20 from the freethrow line. Zalis scored 18 points and added nine rebounds. Ray scored 14 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. 

The Blue Jays play again in Decatur Saturday against Elmhurst at 1 p.m.
