Softball defeats MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team was only able to play one game of its scheduled doubleheader against MacMurray on Wednesday, but the one they played went the Panthers way as Greenville grabbed a 11-1 five-inning win.

The Panthers jumped ahead with two runs in the first inning and added one in the second before a seven run third inning game them a 10-0 lead.

Greenville was led at the plate by the 3-for-3 hitting effort from Megan Barrett.  She also scored a run and knocked in two runs.

Josie Koontz, Beth Mersinger, and Becca Oldham each had two hits.  Mersinger and Oldham added three RBI, and Koontz had two RBI.

The winning pitcher was Caitie Opp who went 4 1/3 innings and yielded just one run on three hits.

The Panthers (4-11, 2-1 SLIAC) host Eureka in a doubleheader next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
