Field Set for 2012 SLIAC Baseball Championships

ST. LOUIS - Webster University, Fontbonne University, Greenville College and Westminster College comprise the four-team field for the 2012 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Baseball Championships that will be held this Thursday-Saturday, May 10-12, at Glik Park in Highland, Illinois.

Top-seeded Webster is the 2012 league champion and the defending tournament champion, and meets #4 seed Westminster at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in first-round action. #2 seed Fontbonne faces #3 seed Greenville in another first-round contest at 5:00 p.m. Thursday. The losers of the first-round games play an elimination game Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m., and the tournament continues Friday and Saturday. The tournament winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

#1 Seed, Webster (28-12): Captured its sixth consecutive league title this season and seventh in the last eight years...defending tournament champion and looking for its sixth tournament title...is 20-11 in 15 tournament appearances...has defeated Greenville for their last four tournament championships...

#2 Seed, Fontbonne (19-21): Is looking for its third tournament title after winning crowns in 1998 and 2009...is 15-10 in eight tournament appearances...split with Greenville in last year's tournament, defeating Panthers 4-3 in 11 innings in first-round game and losing 10-4 in semifinal elimination game...

#2 Seed, Greenville (16-20): Is in search of its first-ever tournament title...stands 11-20 all-time in 11 tournament appearances...lost 9-3 to Webster in last year's SLIAC Tournament Championship...

#4 Seed, Westminster (15-21): Is looking for its fourth tournament title after taking home trophies in 1994, 1995 and 1999...stands 21-14 in 11 tournament appearances...lost to Webster 7-2 in first round tournament game last season...

Note: Spalding University finished second in the league standings at 18-7, but is not eligible for tournament play as it completes its NCAA membership probation.
