Webster’s Dooley & Stevenson 2012 NYCBL All-Stars

ST. LOUIS - Webster University baseball players Steven Dooley and Cody Stevenson were selected to play in the New York College Baseball League's annual All-Star game on July 11. Dooley (Florissant Valley CC, MO) and Stevenson (Centralia HS, IL), who will both be seniors this year, are members this summer of the Hornell Dodgers, a member of the 12-team league.

Stevenson, an outfielder, is 18th in the league with a .352 batting average, fourth with 32 runs scored, and tied for fifth with 13 stolen bases at the break. Dooley, who is starting and relieving for the Dodgers, is sixth in the league with a 2.61 earned run average and is 2-0 on the season. The Dodgers lead their division with a 19-9 record.

The NYCBL is a 12-team collegiate summer league founded in 1978 and sanctioned by the National Association of Summer Baseball and Major League Baseball. Each team plays an eight-week, 40-game schedule followed by a playoff in early August. Players in the league come nationwide from colleges at all NCAA Divisions. Numerous players from the league have become Major Leaguers.

Current NYCBL alumni in MLB include the Cardinals' closer Jason Motte, Tim Hudson, Hunter Pence, Rajai Davis, and Brad Lidge. Other former Cardinal players from the NYCBL include Josh Kinney, a pitcher for the 2006 Championship team, and Steve Kline, who pitched for the 2004 National League Championship team. Kline was best known for his particularly dirty cap he wore.
