Webster Baseball Finishes 8th in ABCA National Rankings
ST. LOUIS - The Webster University baseball team leapt from
being unranked in the final regular season poll top 30, to being
ranked 8th nationally in the American Baseball Coaches
Association's final poll of the 2012 season. The Gorloks
lofty ranking came on the heels of the team's 5-2 record in the
NCAA Tournament, including a 4-0 sweep of the Millington
Regional.
In its post-season play, Webster knocked off a number of ranked
opponents including Birmingham-Southern College (#6) twice, Kean
University (#11), DePauw University (#22), and Washington
University (#27). Webster had near-misses against Marietta
College and Wheaton College, who finished 1-2 in the final
poll.
Despite going two and out in the World Series, their second defeat
at the hands of the Gorloks, Kean University still managed to
finish 6th in the final voting, ahead of Webster.
Birmingham-Southern, despite two losses to Webster, finished strong
as well, only dropping three places to 9th in the final poll.
The ranking is the highest ever for the Webster baseball
team. The top 10 is listed below. For the complete
