Webster's Dooley Named ABCA/Rawlings Central Region Pitcher of the Year; Kurich Named Central Region Coach of the Year
ST. LOUIS - Webster University's Steven Dooley has been named the 2013 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Central Region Pitcher of the Year. Webster head coach Bill Kurich also earned Central Region Coach of the Year honors, along with five players who were named to one of the All-Central Region teams.
Dooley, a senior, was a First Team All-Central Region selection. He currently has a 2.23 ERA in 88.2 innings on the mound and is 10-2 in 15 appearances. Dooley, who was the 2013 SLIAC Pitcher of the Year, also has 68 strikeouts on the year. Joining Dooley on the First Team was Issac Behme, also a pitcher for the Gorloks. Behme, a sophomore, is 9-3 on the mound in 13 total appearances. He has recorded 65 strikeouts and a 2.76 ERA in 78.1. innings of work.
Fontbonne University's Jesse Schott and Blackburn College's Donny Fuhrhop received Second Team All-Central Region honors. Schott, a sophomore third baseman, hit .355 at the plate with 44 hits in 124 at-bats. He tallied 12 doubles, seven home runs, 29 RBI, 25 runs scored and a .621 slugging percentage. Fuhrhop, a junior outfielder and the 2013 SLIAC Player of the Year, had a .386 batting average with 51 hits, including seven doubles, four triples, two home runs and 32 RBI. He also had 37 runs scored and 15 stolen bases for the season.
Fontbonne's Rob Berger, a junior shortstop, was the lone SLIAC player named to the All-Central Region Third Team. Berger went 56-for-160 at the plate for a .350 batting average. He had 10 doubles, one triple, one home run, 24 RBI and 35 runs scored.
Kurich, who was also named the Central Region Coach of the Year by D3Baseball.com, led Webster to its seventh consecutive league title and second consecutive NCAA DIII Regional Championship. The Gorloks were ranked in the top 25 in the nation the entire season and are currently making their second consecutive appearance at the NCAA DIII National Championships.
