Gorloks Keep Hopes Alive With 5-3 Win Over Manchester

APPLETON, Wis. - The Webster University baseball team advanced in the NCAA DIII
Championship, with a 5-3 win over Manchester University (Ind.), on May 25 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.  Issac Behme got the start for the Gorloks and went the distance in picking up the win.
 
Webster plays the loser of the Linfield (Ore.)/Southern Maine game on May 26 at 12:00 p.m. at Fox Cities.  With a loss in the first round, the Gorloks must continue to win to stay alive in the Championship.
 
For the second day in a row, a leadoff walk in the first came back to haunt the Gorloks.  Behme issued a free pass with the runner then moving to second on a ground out.  A bloop single to right gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
 
The Gorloks manufactured runs in four different innings to grind out the win.  In the third inning, Ryan Hall singled with two out, stole second, and scored on a double by Cody
Stevenson, to tie the game 1-1.
 
In the fourth, Taylor Stoulp walked with no one out, Mike Rainbolt singled, and Alex Kazmierski was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Jared Turner drove in Stoulp with a groundout to short, and Bonds sent Rainbolt home with a grounder to short as well as Webster took a 3-1 lead.
 
After Manchester scored a run in the fifth, Webster came back in the sixth with a run of their own as Lasky beat out an infield hit and took second on an errant throw.  Moving to third on a ground out to the mound by Rainbolt, Lasky scored on a wild pitch to make it, 4-2.
 
Both teams would each add another run, but the Gorloks held on to advance.  Webster is 37-11 and set a new all-time high for wins in a season with the victory.
 
Behme scattered seven hits and two walks, while allowing three runs, to improve to 10-3 on the season with the complete game victory.  With his 10th win, Behme ties Steven Dooley for the Webster all-time high record for wins in a single season.  Stevenson was two for four, with an RBI and run scored.  Lasky was two for four, with a run scored, and Kazmierski wound up two for three on the day.
