Field Set for 2013 SLIAC Baseball Championships

ST. LOUIS - Webster University, Westminster College (Mo.), Spalding University and Fontbonne University comprise the four-team field for the 2013 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Baseball Championships that will be held this Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11, at Glik Park in Highland, Illinois.

Top-seeded Webster is the 2013 league champion and the defending tournament champion, and meets #4 seed Fontbonne at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in first-round action. #2 seed Westminster faces #3 seed Spalding in another first-round contest at 5:00 p.m. Thursday. The losers of the first-round games play an elimination game Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m., and the tournament continues Friday and Saturday. The tournament winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

#1 Seed, Webster (29-8): Captured its seventh consecutive league title this season and eighth in the last nine years...defending tournament champion and looking for its sixth tournament title...is 23-11 in 16 tournament appearances...defeated Fontbonne 14-3 for the tournament championship in 2012...currently ranked 13th in D3baseball.com Top 25 national poll...also ranked 12th in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's DIII Poll...

#2 Seed, Westminster (22-9): Is looking for its fourth tournament title after taking home trophies in 1994, 1995 and 1999...stands 21-16 in 12 tournament appearances...went 0-2 in last year's tournament, losing 11-0 to Webster and 8-7 to Fontbonne...

#3 Seed, Spalding (30-10): Making its first tournament appearance in only the first year eligibile for post-season play...went 2-1 against Westminster in the regular season conference series, defeating the Blue Jays 1-0 and 3-2...

#4 Seed, Fontbonne (18-22): Is looking for its third tournament title after winning crowns in 1998 and 2009...is 17-12 in nine tournament appearances...posted wins against Westminster (8-7) and Greenville (4-3) in last year's conference tournament...
