Total of 11 Players Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region

A total of 11 players from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference have been named to the 2014 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region Central team. Webster University led the way with five players while Greenville College and Westminster College each placed two players on the team and Spalding University and Blackburn College each had one player named All-Region.

Three Webster players earned First Team honors; Taylor Stoulp, Corey Lasky and Isaac Behme. Stoulp, a second baseman, led the SLIAC with a .407 batting average and added 45 runs scored with 17 doubles. Lasky, a junior outfielder, hit .385 and led the conference in runs with 51 while Behme, a junior pitcher, was 8-1 with a 3.52 earned-run average. Gorlok Joe Winckel was named Second Team while Dylan Smith picked up Third Team honors. Winckel, a senior, hit .387 with 49 runs batted in and six home runs while Smith, a senior, was 8-1 with a 2.80 earned-run average.

Greenville's Tim Osborne also picked up First Team honors while teammate Trevor Montgomery was named Second Team. Osborne, a sophomore outfielder, hit .377 with a SLIAC best 12 home runs and 52 runs batted in. Montgomery, a sophomore catcher, hit .388 with five home runs and 30 runs batted in while throwing out 12 would be base stealers.

Westminster College's Deion Hughes was named First Team while Tyler Branneky earned Second Team honors. Hughes, a sophomore, was named to the First Team as a utility player after recording a school record eight wins this year with 79 strikeouts, ranking third in the nation in strikeouts per inning, and hitting .361 with 29 runs scored and 26 runs batted in. Branneky, a junior third baseman, hit .366 with four home runs and 23 runs batted in while being named to the Second Team.

Matt Mokriakow, from Blackburn College, and Derek Ferch, from Spalding University, each were named Third Team All-Region. Mokriakow, a sophomore outfielder, hit .395 with four home runs and 42 runs batted in this season to earn All-Region honors. Ferch, a senior shortstop, was the 2014 SLIAC Player of the Year after hitting .391 with one home run and 42 runs batted in.
