Brough To Take Over Highlander Baseball Program

Austin Brough, who has been assistant baseball coach for the past two years, has been named head baseball coach at MacMurray College.

Brough replaces Justin Fuhler, who was appointed athletic director last spring. Brough has served as assistant coach since August 2013, where his focus was on player development, working with the pitching staff and recruiting.

"I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to coach here at MacMurray,” said Brough.  “Coach Fuhler and I have worked extremely hard to build this program,” Brough continued. “I have learned so much from him in the past two years, and he has been a big part of the success of the program and helping me grow as a coach. The parents, players, and community have also been very supportive over the past two years, and I am blessed to be a part of it all.”

According to Athletic Director Fuhler, “Coach Brough has been instrumental in the improvement we have seen in the baseball program. As a former pitcher in the Phillies organization, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the position and a passion to lead our baseball program to a high level.” Fuhler continued, “The fact that I had such a highly qualified replacement made my decision to take the athletic director position an easy one. I am confident that Austin will build on the recent success of the baseball program.”

Brough brings to his new role two years as assistant coach at MacMurray, two years pitching professional ball in the Phillies organization rising to the Advanced A level, one year independent professional league, volunteer assistant coach at Clifton High School, and two years as pitching coach for the Okotoks Dawgs of the Canadian Western Major Baseball League in Okotoks, Alberta.

Brough earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art with a minor in graphic design from Western Illinois University in 2010.
