Jarvis Tosses No-Hitter In Highlander Win

MacMurray College junior pitcher Luke Jarvis etched his name into the Highlanders record book on Saturday, throwing a no-hitter in his team's 1-0 win over Webster University.

There was little room for error in game one of a double header between MacMurray College and Webster University, with just one run coming across the plate in the seven inning affair. But that one run was all Luke Jarvis (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) needed as he shut down the Gorlok offense.

MacMurray jumped on top in the top of the first inning when Drew Johnson went deep for a solo home run. The Highlanders would get just four more hits in the game but didn't need any additional runs with Jarvis on the mound.

Jarvis worked around a hit by pitch in the first inning, inducing a double play ball to escape the frame. From there Jarvis would retire 16 straight batters, including striking out the side in the second inning.

The game would not end without Webster putting up a fight however as they put their seventh inning leadoff hitter on base with an error; then promptly stealing second base to put the tying run in scoring position. But Jarvis locked things down by recording the first two outs of the inning on strikeouts and forcing an easy pop foul for the third out.

Jarvis finished the game going seven innings, allowing no hits and no runs, while striking out 10 and walking none. He improves to 3-1 on the season and currently ranks in the SLIAC top five in wins, earned-run average, and strikeouts per nine innings.
