SLIAC With Four On CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had four student-athletes named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams. Fontbonne University's Ethan Borrowman was named to the District 5 team while Spalding University was represented in District 3 by Matt Harper, Jimi Keating, and Kyle Olliges.

Borrowman, a Computer Science major at Fontbonne, earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the first time in his career. The senior outfielder is just the second in the history of the program to earn the honor, the first being Zach Carel in 2014. The four-year Griffin has a 3.96 cumulative GPA and is also the student speaker at commencement Monday and is involved in various activities on campus. 

Borrowman is fifth on the Griffins squad with a .555 slugging percentage and is second on the team with five home runs. He has recorded 10 doubles this year, has 44 hits, 26 runs batted in and averages .344 at the plate. Borrowman is currently on a five-game hitting streak as the Griffins enter their final SLIAC series of the regular season. He has been on the Dean's list and SLIAC All-Academic Team each eligible year.

Spalding, along with MIT and Texas Lutheran led NCAA Division III with a nation-leading three student-athletes selected to the All-District Team.

Matt Harper, a Russellville, Ky. native, is a double majoring in Accounting and Business Administration and maintains a 4.0 grade-point average. The sophomore infielder's six home runs have helped the Golden Eagles become one of the more dangerous teams in the nation at the plate, ranking fourth in NCAA Division III in team home runs with 44 on the year, while ranking 3rd nationally in home runs per game averaging 1.19 dingers per contest. The second baseman has also been solid in the field earning a .962 fielding percentage, while helping the defense turn four double plays.

Jimi Keating, a Bardstown, Ky. native, is a Natural Science major and holds a 3.84 grade-point average. On the field, Keating is one of the top pitchers in NCAA Division III. The junior right-handed pitcher leads the nation in strikeouts and wins. On the season, Keating has racked up 110 strikeouts, while hurling his way to an 11-0 record. Keating also ranks in the top-5 five nationally in complete games (2nd/8), WHIP (2nd/0.71) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4th/15.71), as well as ranks 13th nationally in earned runs average (1.29).

Kyle Olliges, a senior from Louisville, Ky., is a Health Science major, with a focus in Occupational Therapy and holds a 3.86 grade-point average. On the season, the pitcher has 98 strikeouts ranking fourth in NCAA Division III, while ranking seventh in the nation in wins with nine on the season. Olliges also ranks 23rd nationally in strikeouts per innings with a 11.50 mark on the season.

The 2016-17 Academic All-District Baseball teams were announced today as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight districts that recognize the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III.

In order to be selected to an Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing and is nominated by the school's Sports Information Director.

CoSIDA Academic All-District award winners will be considered for the Academic All-America teams, voted on by the Academic All-America committee and CoSIDA Board of Directors.
