Fuhler Returns To Helm Of Highlander Baseball
MacMurray Athletic Director Justin Fuhler will return to the helm of the baseball program this fall.
Fuhler will remain as the Athletic Director as he returns as head coach of the MacMurray baseball program, where he started in 2011 as an assistant coach. He was promoted to the head coaching role starting in 2014 where he went on to earn St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Coach of the Year. Under Fuhler's direction, the team's roster increased by 20 percent and the team made a drastic improvement in wins.
Fuhler was succeeded by Austin Brough in the 2016 season when Fuhler became the Athletics Director. Brough was Fuhler's assistant for two years and continued working on improving the baseball program leading the team to the SLIAC tournament in 2016 for the first time since 1999. Brough recently accepted a role as the Director of Baseball Operations at Illinois State University in Bloomington, Ill.
The last student-athletes Fuhler recruited are entering their senior year this fall. Senior Tyler Deaton said, "I was recruited by Coach Fuhler and am excited to have him back on the coaching staff." He continued, "I am thankful to have had the opportunity to play for both Fuhler and Brough and I will continue to use their lessons in leadership in every aspect I can for the team."
Fuhler brings more than a decade of experience as a coach at the college, summer league, and high school levels. At the collegiate level, he coached at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill., and at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Ill. Before joining the college ranks, Fuhler coached and taught history at high schools in Clifton and Effingham, both in Illinois.
Fuhler was also head coach of the Springfield (Ill.) Bulldogs, a summer travel team, and previous to that coached the Moosejaw Miller Express, a collegiate summer league team in Saskatchewan, Canada.
He earned his bachelor's in history and secondary education from McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill., and his master's in educational leadership from Walden University in Baltimore.
