Webster Baseball Appears In National Rankings
In this week's first poll of the regular season, Webster is seven points behind No. 26 Wisconsin-Lacrosse (82 points) and two points in front of No. 28 Pomona-Pitzer (73 points).
The Gorloks, who are currently sporting a 7-2 overall this season, have won six straight games since suffering an 8-3 loss at home on Feb. 26 against seventh-ranked Concordia (Chicago) (7-2). So far this season, Webster is 2-1 against nationally ranked teams as they are 1-1 against Concordia (Chicago) and 1-0 against 20th-ranked Southern Maine, who the Gorloks defeated 8-5 at Auburndale at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Monday. Webster is also against 2-0 against teams earning votes in this week's poll as they have picked up wins over both Concordia (Texas) and Rhodes College.
While Webster is ranked 27th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Division III Poll, the Gorloks received 30 votes to be 10th among the 34 teams earning votes in this week's D3Baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 Poll.
The No. 1 team is the same in both the Collegiate Baseball and D3Baseball.com Polls is UMass-Boston (6-1) as they earned 467 points in the Collegiate Baseball poll and 602 points and 12 first-place votes in the D3Baseball.com poll.
Here is the remainder of the Top 5 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll is - No. 2 Trinity (Texas) (10-1), No. 3 Rowan (6-1), No. 4 College of Wooster (1-0) and No. 5 Washington & Jefferson (6-2), while the Top 5 in the D3Baseball.com poll is - No. 2 Wisconsin-Whitewater (0-0), No. 3 Washington & Jefferson (6-2), No. 4 North Central (Ill.) (2-0) and No. 5 Trinity (Texas) (10-1).
Along with facing Southern Maine at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, the Gorloks are also scheduled to face three other ranked teams in Florida as they face 11th-ranked St. Scholastica on Thursday, March 15, while meeting 24th-ranked Wheaton (Mass.) on Friday, March 16 and 28th-ranked Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Saturday, March 17.
Webster is one to two St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams mentioned in both the Collegiate Baseball and D3Baseball.com polls as Spalding is earning votes in both polls - 27 in Collegiate Baseball and 10 votes in D3Baseball.com.
The Gorloks will return to play in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 5 p.m. EDT game on Thursday, March 15 against 11th-ranked St. Scholastica at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.
