Mulhearn Named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Webster University sophomore right-handed pitcher Matt Mulhearn (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) has been named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for March 19.

Mulhearn, who was named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday, earned his spot on the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week after taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning and pitching seven shutout innings in the Gorloks 6-3 last Thursday against 11th-ranked College of St. Scholastica at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. Against the Saints, Mulhearn walked just one batter and struck out a career-high seven in his 112 pitch outing, while allowing just two hits, the first of which, a double, came with one out in the sixth inning. He also allowed a single in the seventh but kept both those runners from scoring.

On the season, Mulhearn is 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA. He has made four starts on the mound and has pitched a team-high 25.2 innings. In those 25.2 innings of work, the right-hander has allowed 13 hits, six runs (five earned runs), while walking just five and striking out a team-best 21. Over his last three outings, Mulhearn is 3-0 with a 0.93 ERA as he has recorded 17 strikeouts, walked just five and pitched at least six innings in those three starts.

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its seventh season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors.

Webster will return to action this coming Saturday, March 24 as they travel to Greenville, Ill., to open SLIAC play with a doubleheader against Greenville University. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m.
