Fontbonne's McKinney Honored at Coaches vs. Cancer Breakfast
ST. LOUIS - Fontbonne University men's basketball coach
Dr. Lee McKinney was presented the Stephanie
Phillips Survivor Award yesterday (November 10) during the
Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout Tip-Off Breakfast held at the Chaifetz
Arena on the St. Louis University campus.
The award is presented annually to a cancer survivor who embodies
the characteristics of former high school coach Stephanie Phillips.
The award is given by the American Cancer Society and St.
Louis Coaches vs. Cancer.
In addition to being a cancer survivor, Coach McKinney has helped
raise more than $80,000 during his collegiate coaching career.
"I'm honored to receive such a prestigous award," said Coach
McKinney. "This award is very special for me because of my own
fight with cancer. Coaches vs. Cancer is a great initiative that
will hopefully one day assist in finding a cure for this deadly
disease."
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between
the American Cancer Society and the National Association of
Basketball Coaches. On Jan. 27th, Coaches vs. Cancer will be
holding a shootout featuring some of the area's top high
school basketball programs. For more information on the
