Whittingham Named DIII News All-American Honorable Mention

ST. LOUIS - Webster University's Stefan Whittingham (Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL) has another award to add to his resume, being named as an Honorable Mention selection for the 2012 DIII News All-American Basketball Team. The 6'3" sophomore forward becomes just the second Gorlok named to the team, and the first since 2001 when Jeff Reis, a Webster Athletics and SLIAC Hall of Famer, was selected as honorable mention also.

Whittingham is the first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player chosen by DIII News since 2007, when Eureka College's Chris Tarpley was honorable mention as well. DIII News, The Monthly Newsletter of (NCAA) Division III Men's Basketball, names First through Fifth All-American teams, and a block of honorable mention selections. With 400-plus NCAA III schools fielding men's basketball teams, Whittingham falls into a fairly select group.

He was also voted to the National Association of Basketball Coaches 2012 Midwest All-District Second Team by NABC coaches earlier this month. Whittingham was the SLIAC 2012 Player of the Year, and a SLIAC First-Team All-Conference selection as well, averaging 15.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
