Eureka's Mark Lessen Named to D3Hoops.com All-Region Team
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Eureka College senior center
Mark Lessen has been selected to the D3Hoops.com
All-Midwest Region Second Team, according to an announcement from
the website Wednesday morning. Lessen, Eureka's first
D3Hoops.com All-Region honoree since 2010, was the only St. Louis
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player to be named to the
squad.
The 2012-13 SLIAC Player of the Year, Lessen led the nine-team
SLIAC with 235 total rebounds, the ninth-highest total in
single-season Eureka history. His average of 9.8 rebounds per
game also led the SLIAC and ranked fourth in single-season Eureka
history. The 6-foot-7 center collected 52 blocked shots this
season to lead the league for the third consecutive season.
Lessen's scoring average of 19.7 points per game ranked second
among SLIAC players, while his .625 field goal percentage ranked
fourth in the league and fifth in Eureka's single-season
history. He was named to the All-SLIAC First Team and
All-SLIAC Defensive Team for the second consecutive campaign.
Additionally, Lessen earned three consecutive SLIAC Player of
the Week awards from Jan. 14 through Jan. 28 and was selected to
th3 D3Hoops.com Team of the Week on Jan. 29.
Lessen closed his 101-game career with 687 rebounds, ninth-most in
program history. He also compiled 1,236 points, a .613 field
goal percentage and 176 blocked shots. Lessen is Eureka's
first D3Hoops.com All-Region selection since Michael Zasada was
named to the Second Team in 2010.
D3Hoops.com divides NCAA Division III men's basketball into eight
regions nationwide. Players were nominated for the
D3Hoops.com All-Region Teams by sports information directors at the
various schools. There were a record-high 729 players
nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs,
who voted for a predetermined number of players in their
region.
Under the direction of sixth-year head coach Chip Wilde, Eureka
finished the 2012-13 season with an 18-9 record, the Red Devils'
highest win total since the 1993-94 season. Eureka finished
tied for second place in the SLIAC with a 12-4 record and advanced
to the SLIAC
Tournament championship game for the third time since joining the
league prior to the 2006-07 season.
