Slagle Takes Home Top Honors, SLIAC All-Conference Team Announced

MacMurray College's Brady Slagle took home top honors from the SLIAC as the 2013-14 All-Conference Team and Individual Awards were announced. Spalding University's Kevin Gray was named Coach of the Year while Fontbonne University's Bryan DeGeare was named Newcomer of the Year. In addition Westminster College receives the Team Sportsmanship Award.

The 2013-14 SLIAC Player of the Year is Brady Slagle from MacMurray College. Slagle, a senior forward, averaged 15.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He is the only player in the SLIAC this season to rank in the top five of all three categories. He finished third in the conference in scoring and rebounding and fifth in total assists.

The 2013-14 SLIAC Coach of the Year is Spalding University's Kevin Gray. Gray led his team to a second consecutive SLIAC regular season title. This marks the third time in his career he has earned SLIAC Coach of the Year honors, becoming the fifth individual to win the award at least three times.

Bryan DeGeare, a forward from Fontbonne, earned Newcomer of the Year honors after averaging 10.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He finished second among first year players in scoring and blocks while also ranking third in rebounds. His 21 total blocks this season ranked fourth overall and he finished 15th overall in rebounding and 22nd in scoring.

Westminster College received the SLIAC Sportsmanship Award, which is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one player from each team who represent the same sportsmanship qualities.
