2014-15 Men's Basketball Players of the Week

Feb. 23 - CLAYTON WHITLOCK, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
Whitlock, a senior from Springfield, Ill., put together a pair of 20 point efforts last week helping him maintain his efforts to win the 2014-15 SLIAC scoring title. Whitlock netted 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting in a win over Iowa Wesleyan. The following game Whitlock scored 22 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, marking his eighth 20 point game this season. On the week Whitlock averaged 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 69.2 percent from the field. He was also 13-of-14 from the free-throw line and added three assists in his two games played.

Feb. 16 - CHRIS FOWLER, IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Fowler, a junior guard from Victorville, Calif., is this week's Player of the Week after leading his team to a 69-67 win over Fontbonne University. Fowler scored a game high 30 points in the overtime win, including knocking down the game winning jumper with 1:03 left in the overtime period. Fowler went 13-of-22 from the field while hitting a pair of three-pointers. Fowler added five rebounds, four assists, and four steals to help secure the victory for the Tigers. Iowa Wesleyan is now 11-8 overall this season and have four consecutive games.

Feb. 9 - SETH WICKERT, EUREKA COLLEGE
Wickert, a senior guard from Macomb, Ill., helped facilitate his team's offense in helping the Red Devils to a pair of conference wins last week. Wickert recorded double digit assists in the two games including a triple double in a 74-55 win over MacMurray. In that game Wickert finished with 13 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists as well as adding six steals. He followed with 10 assists and three steals in a win over Greenville. On the week Wickert averaged 8.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 10.5 assists while committing just two total turnovers.

Feb. 2 - DEAVIS JOHNSON, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
Deavis Johnson, a junior from East St. Louis, Ill., helped the Highlanders take over sole possession of first place in the SLIAC standings in a 91-65 win over Webster last weekend. In his only game of the week Johnson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson was 7-of-10 from the field and added three assists, one steal, and one blocked shot. The Highlanders have now won eight consecutive games and are 9-2 in conference play.

Jan. 26 - AARON GRIFFIN, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
Griffin, a senior forward from Farm Haven, Miss., stepped his game up to account for the loss of the Gorloks' leading scorer, Ahmad Smith. Griffin led his team in scoring and rebounding last week in helping them notch a pair of SLIAC wins. Against Blackburn Griffin finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, going 7-of-9 from the field. He followed with his fifth double-double of the season in a win over Westminster, registering 19 points and 13 rebounds. On the week Griffin averaged 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while shooting 63-percent from the field and going 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Jan. 19 - CLAYTON WHITLOCK, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
Whitlock, a senior from Springfield, Ill., helped the Highlanders to a pair of conference wins last week; extending their winning streak to five games and moving into second place in the standings. Whitlock started the week with a season high 29 points in his team's 108-64 win over Blackburn. Whitlock was nearly unstoppable, shooting 14-of-17 from the field, and added five rebounds. Whitlock followed with 21 points in his team's 90-84 win over Greenville. Whitlock went for 21 points and eight rebounds in the win, adding four assists. On the week Whitlock averaged 25.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 79.3 percent from the field.

Jan. 12 - JUSTIN BALL, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE
Ball, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., was a difference maker for the Panthers this week, filling up numerous statistical categories. Ball helped his team to a win over Westminster with 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the game. He followed with a game high 26 points in an overtime contest against Blackburn, adding nine rebounds and five assists. On the week Ball averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. He added five blocked shots and shot 57.6 percent from the field while also going 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Jan. 5 - GREG KENT, EUREKA COLLEGE
Greg Kent, a junior guard from Chicago, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Player of the Week after recording a triple-double against Monmouth and then helping the Red Devils knock off Webster in a conference game. Kent finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in a narrow 90-86 loss to Monmouth, marking the first Red Devil triple-double since 2010. Kent was instrumental in his team's win over Webster, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Against Webster, Kent gave his team the lead for good when he scored four straight points mid-way through the second-half. On the week Kent averaged 12.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 57.9 percent from the field.

Dec. 22 - HUNTER WARD, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
Ward, a sophomore guard from St. Louis, Mo., helped led the Gorloks to a win over Central (Iowa) College last week. Ward played a well-rounded game in the 70-65 win, finishing with 11 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. In 31 minutes of action Ward committed just one turnover. This marks the second time this season Ward has earned weekly honors.

Dec. 15 - AHMAD SMITH, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
Smith, a senior guard from St. Louis, Mo., dropped in a season high 33 points as the Gorloks took on #3 ranked Washington University-St. Louis, falling just short in an 80-70 loss. Smith went 13-of-19 from the field including two three-pointers and added five rebounds and two steals. Smith's 33 points are the most by a SLIAC player this season.

Dec. 8 - CLAYTON WHITLOCK, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
Whitlock, a senior from Springfield, Ill., helped the Highlanders notch their first win of the season in an 87-69 victory over Blackburn. Whitlock led all players with 27 points, hitting on 11-of-13 shots from the field. He added six rebounds and one blocked shot in the game while going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Whitlock followed the win with another solid performance against Spalding, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds. On the week he averaged 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 76-percent from the field.

Dec. 1 - HUNTER WARD, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
Ward, a sophomore guard from St. Louis, Mo., helped the Gorloks to a pair of wins on the week including keying a come from behind victory over Loras. Trailing 72-56 with just over three-minutes left in the game Ward knocked down three consecutive three-pointers  in a 31-second span to spark the Gorloks. Ward knocked down a fourth three-pointer with 17-seconds left to tie the game, with Webster eventually winning in overtime. He finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Earlier in the week he recorded another double-double in a conference win over MacMurray. On the week Ward averaged 16.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 47.8-percent from the field with nine total three-pointers.

Nov. 24 -NICK TRISKO, GREENVILLE COLLEGE
Trisko, a sophomore from Lexington, Ky., helped the Panthers record their first win of the season in a 97-84 victory over Dominican. Trisko scored 19 points in just 15 minutes of action off the bench. Trisko was 8-of-12 from the field and added seven rebounds and two blocked shots in the game. Earlier in the week Trisko netted 12 points and eight rebounds against Lindenwood. On the week Trisko averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 63.6 from the field.

Nov. 17- JEFF ROSS, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE
Ross, a freshman from Glen Rock, N.J., led the Panthers to a win in their 2014-15 season opener. Ross scored a game high 24 points in the 81-50 win over Lincoln Christian. Ross was 8-of-11 from the field. He added 14 rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots in the game while going 8-of-11 from the free-throw line. Six of his eight rebounds came on the offensive end while putting together a 2-to-1 turnover ratio .
