Westminster Draws #1 Augustana in First Round

The Westminster men's basketball team drew number one nationally ranked Augustana College (Ill.) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Westminster Blue Jays face off with host Augustana on Friday, March 4, at 8:00 p.m. in Rock Island, Illinois. This is the Blue Jay's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance. 

No. 1 Augustana will also host no. 6 Hope and Mount St. Joseph for the other first round game. The winner of the two first round games will play each other in the second round.

The Blue Jays enter the NCAA Tournament with a 12-15 record. They posted a 10-8 record in conference play and defeated Spalding University in the SLIAC Tournament Championship. 

The Blue Jays are led offensively by sophomores Romo Tabb and Nick Carlos. Tabb is shooting 50 percent from the field and is averaging 12 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Carlos averages 13.8 points per game with a 44.6 shooting percentage and a 41.7 three-point percentage. 

No. 1 Augustana enters the tournament with a 26-1 record. They finished their regular season with a 24-1 and 13-1 in conference, and are currently on a 14-game winning streak with their last loss coming from January 6, 2016. They earned the CCIW's automatic bid after defeating Elmhurst in the conference tournament championship, 69-53.
